NZGBC Panel - Better Buildings with Sustainability
12pm-1pm Seminar Series - brought to you by Bunnings Trade

Panelists: Bobby Shen - NZBGC, Business Development Manager for Exisiting Buildings, Mark Sinclair - FM Concepts, Bridget Pyc - Property Sustainability & Relations Advisor at Samson

Aotearoa's built environment is responsible for 20% off the country's greenhouse gas emissions with a significant portion coming from the ongoing operation of existing buildings. With New Zealand's decarbonisation commitments, the rising cost of carbon-intensive activities and the government and financial sector signalling more scrutiny on the sustainability reporting, understanding the performance of a property portfolio is crucial for becoming more climate change ready.

The focus on this session will be on a facility manager's role in sustainability, particularly around monitoring how buildings are performing. A brief presentation will provide some context on how we have to look at existing buildings, risk management in relation to climate change, and cover the role of third-party certified rating tools to gauge where improvement and investment should be directed to create better outcomes.

Our panelists will provide the real-world perspective working in the facility management space. The conversation will look at their continuous improvement regimes, sustainable management practices and tangible steps that property and facility managers can take away with them to enrich their work.
